Amethyst [ am-uh-thist ] - purple or violet quarts; used as a gem.
amethystos [greek] - meaning sober and alludes to the idea of maintaining a solid, sober mindset.
Who collected rocks as a kid? I know I did. I loved them! So many cool and interesting rocks to collect, how could you choose one? I had big ones, small ones, smooth ones, and colorful ones. But eventually, you find the rock that you can't get enough of. For me, that was the amethyst crystal. I'm not alone either, it's been loved throughout history for the past 2,000 years!
Now, what is an amethyst anyways? Amethysts form in geodes, volcanic rocks that are hollow. Magic occurs and you have a cool purple crystal! Well, actually, mineral water and gases saturate the hollow stone and crystalize. Now, the geode just looks like an egg-shaped rock but when you crack it open, a beautiful purple world appears! They can appear in many colors, but the most iconic is that deep purple we know.
This build took ages to get right! Months and months of design come into play trying to get the curvature just right. The curvature had to have an outside and inside layer. That AND has an outer edge that "enclosed" the inner amethyst quartz. It can be scaled up or scaled down depending on your preference. I know people put HUGE ones at the entrance of their homes as display pieces. Why can't this one sit on your desk or your entryway table? Could be a great addition to any home decor!
