Multi-Tool

Inspired by the variety of multi-tools available in everyday life, I decided to create one designed specifically for LEGO fans. Of course, the most important tool in any LEGO builder's arsenal is the Brick Separator, and so I began working on a way to incorporate this classic, although oddly shaped, piece into a compact, functional build.

The design features:

Independently articulating/closable tools.
Compact design that fits into a pocket or purse (Dimensions: 14 x 5 x 2 studs).
Customizable faceplate colors for personalization.
Inter-changeable accessories.

The configuration shown in photos includes:

Brick Separator.
Screwdriver.
Belt Punch.
Magnifying Glass.
Corkscrew.
Technic Axle (for helping remove those pesky Technic pieces).

Additional Considerations

In case you're still unsure whether to support this project, here are a few reasons why I think it would make a great Ideas set.

Originality - The design is unique and unlike anything in the existing LEGO portfolio of sets. There are numerous customization options (see "Updates" section for examples and photos) to ensure each person can tailor the set to fit their personality.
Playability - The clean, simple aesthetic means that not only can this set be used for display on a desk/shelf, but it can also be used as a functional tool when building future LEGO products. Alternatively, even though Ideas sets tend to be geared toward adults, kids can also pretend they are detectives using the magnifying glass to look for clues, or secret agents with a high-tech spy gadget.
Variety - One of the great things about LEGO is they offer products in a range of price points and piece counts. Just like the Saturn V was the first Ideas set to be >1000 pieces, the Multi-Tool could be the first set to be <100 pieces (41 pieces to be exact). This is the first design of this size to ever get close to the review stage and I think it shows the community is looking for small set options in addition to large ones.
Broad Appeal - While the Multi-Tool was designed with brick fans in mind, it also makes a fun present for those who are new to the world of LEGO. Whether it is a Father's Day gift for the dad who has everything, a thank you award for that co-worker who always knows how to fix problems, or a present for a child who wants to have "real" tools of their own, the Multi-Tool is a great option.
